Sen. George McGovernVeteran, Congressman, Senator, Presidential candidate, Ambassador, statesman and South Dakotan George McGovern shared his thoughts and experiences from World War II for a fundraiser for the Friends of South Dakota Public Broadcasting.

"A Conversation about THE WAR"  took place on Friday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. MT at the Journey Museum in Rapid City. The fundraiser was part of SDPB’s effort to mark the debut of the coming television epic THE WAR, the Ken Burns/Lynn Novick series about World War II.

McGovern, now 85, left his home in South Dakota for World War II service in 1943. He flew 35 missions as a B-24 Bomber pilot in the European Theater of Operations and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was interviewed by Larry Rohrer, Director of Content for SDPB.
